Towing and Labor Coverage
When you are considering an auto insurance, be on the watch for the terms “towing coverage” and “labor coverage”. The former handles the expense of having your vehicle towed to an auto mechanic. Costs involved with labor to get your car up and running again are covered in the latter. However only the labor, and not parts, are covered.
This coverage won’t pay for the labor for a complete engine overhaul. Instead, it addresses the minor issues such as a tire change, changing a broken belt, adding oil or adding gasoline if you have run out. This addition is a typically a small charge per month. Yet, this premium is much cheaper than paying for towing when you need it.
You May Have Coverage
Check your existing policy to see if these coverages are already included. It could be listed as roadside assistance. If you cannot determine whether you policy has this service, call your agent to get additional information. This addendum coverage is not always included in your policy, but you can include it if you have comprehensive coverage. If you are switching policies after getting a new quote, it is good to make sure that you have it.
If you have a newer vehicle, you may want to check the dealership’s extended warranty to see if roadside assistance is included. If it is, you are covered for towing. If you are a member of an auto club or roadside assistance program, towing and labor should be included in your membership so you won’t have to include it with your auto insurance policy.
